Optimising and scaling up hot water extraction of tannins from Norway spruce and Scots pine bark

چکیده

Tannins from Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) bark were extracted with water at different temperatures (60–140 °C) in an ASE-350 system order to optimize yield. In addition, the effect of chemicals such as urea, sodium bisulfite (NaHSO3), carbonate (Na2CO3), benzoate on yield was also investigated. Bark debarking processes both a sawmill pulp mill included. The highest overall expressed total dissolved solids (TDS) obtained hot extraction 140 °C. TDS 117 mg/g it contained 47 tannins. With increase temperature over 100 °C, proportion tannins decreased, whereas carbohydrates increased. addition improved within 60–90 °C range compared pure water. Other did not improve Pine showed similar yields but lower than pine. Pure 110 chosen be used for piloting larger scale 300-liter vessel. Based results, machine-learning approach applied using seemingly unrelated regression models (SUR). able predict tannin when extractions scaled up 2 liters then 300 liters.

Boron retranslocation in Scots pine and Norway spruce.

We previously traced 10B-enriched boric acid from shoots to roots to demonstrate the translocation of boron (B) in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings. To gain a more detailed understanding of B translocation, we sought: (1) to demonstrate B retranslocation directly, by showing that foliar-applied 10B is located in the new growth after dormancy...

Hot water extraction and steam explosion as pretreatments for ethanol production from spruce bark.

Spruce bark is a source of interesting polyphenolic compounds and also a potential but little studied feedstock for sugar route biorefinery processes. Enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation of spruce bark sugars to ethanol were studied after three different pretreatments: steam explosion (SE), hot water extraction (HWE) at 80 °C, and sequential hot water extraction and steam explosion (HWE+SE), ...

Durability of thermally modified Norway spruce and Scots pine in above ground conditions

One of the main objectives of thermal modification is to increase the biological durability of wood. In this study the fungal resistance of Norway spruce and Scots pine, thermally modified at 1958C and 2108C, was studied with a lap-joint field test. Untreated pine and spruce and pine impregnated with tributyl tin oxide (TBTO) and copper, chromium and arsenic (CCA) were selected as reference mat...
